Lake Avenue in White Bear Lake
This book is a work in progress. I am grateful to the WBL Area Historical Society and Lake Avenue residents who have shared their knowledge and histories. I'm collecting an archive that will slowly appear (in part) on these pages. Eventually, I hope a book will be the culmination of this project. Meanwhile, I welcome your input. Let me know when you think I've gotten something wrong, when you have something to contribute and when you have memorabilia you'd like to share - I have a great scanner. Just send me an email, and I'll give you a call as soon as I am able. We are so lucky to share Lake Avenue. Long may she reign!

Yesterday and Today. Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.
I feel as if I were born to write about Lake Avenue. I live at the corner of Second St. and Lake Avenue in White Bear Lake, Minn. - the site of the former Chateaugay Resort (built circa 1890). My great grandparents worked at the hotel, and my grandmother bought our home in the 1960s. This blog is a precursor to a book I hope to publish in 2025. It is part memoir and part conversational history. There have been many tear downs on Lake Avenue in the past few years. I realize that change is inevitable. The intention in writing this blog/book is to provoke thoughtful discussion on the future of this precious public space. I hope it will provide readers with insight into what makes Lake Avenue so special and why its inherent charm deserves to be preserved.
